The social Outreach challenge asked team members to find a problem within their community and provide a solution for it, while creating a presentation on what it was and how they solved it.
The Dana Hill High School team did not have to look too far. Right in their community, kids at Kinoshita Elementary School did not have afterschool programs or funding for taking part in after school activities including music, theatre arts or Destination Imagination.
The Project Dana Hills team put out a call to the school children for taking part in the competition. The response was heartwarming. They became mentors to the little kids and helped them with tools to solve the improv challenge at the elementary level. Kinoshita children performed at the Regionals because of the efforts of this compassionate group who looked beyond themselves, at self fulfillment as a journey within a journey as they sped past the competition to Globals.
